The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance. (1) Rightly directing, that he might give warning of severe punishment from Him and give good news to the believers who do good that they shall have a goodly reward, (2) They will abide therein for ever. (3) and also to warn those who say: "Allah has taken to Himself a son," (4) No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. It is a grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a saying what they say is nothing but falsehood! (5) Perhaps you will destroy yourself out of grief because they disbelieve this Book. (6) We have indeed placed all that is on the earth as its adornment in order that We may test them, who among them has the best deeds. (7) And lo! We shall make all that is thereon a barren mound. (8) Or dost thou reflect that the Companions of the Cave and of the Inscription were wonders among Our Sign? (9) When the young men fled for refuge to the Cave and said: Our Lord! Give us mercy from Thy presence, and shape for us right conduct in our plight. (10) Then We draw (a veil) over their ears, for a number of years, in the Cave, (so that they heard not): (11) Then roused them to ascertain which of the two groups could account for the period they had stayed. (12)
