The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance. (1) (He hath made it) Straight (and Clear) in order that He may warn (the godless) of a terrible Punishment from Him, and that He may give Glad Tidings to the Believers who work righteous deeds, that they shall have a goodly Reward, (2) [a state of bliss] in which they shall dwell beyond the count of time. (3) Further, that He may warn those (also) who say, "Allah hath begotten a son": (4) They have no knowledge of this, as their fathers did not have. How terrible are the words they utter! They speak nothing but lies. (5) Yet perchance, if they do not believe in this tiding, you will consume yourself with grief and follow after them. (6) We have adorned the earth with attractive things, so that We may test mankind as to which one is best in conduct, (7) And most surely We will make what is on it bare ground without herbage. (8) Do you think that the people of the Cave and the Inscription (the news or the names of the people of the Cave) were a wonder among Our Signs? (9) When those youths took refuge in the cave, they prayed: "O our Sustainer! Bestow on us grace from Thyself, and endow us, whatever our [outward] condition, with consciousness of what is right!" (10) So We prevented them from hearing in the cave for a number of years. (11) Then We roused them, in order to test which of the two parties was best at calculating the term of years they had tarried! (12)
