The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance. (1) and which rightly directs, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to proclaim to the believers who do righteous deeds that they shall have an excellent recompense, (2) wherein they shall remain forever, (3) And that it may warn those who say: God hath taken a son. (4) No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. It is a grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a saying what they say is nothing but falsehood! (5) Perhaps you will destroy yourself out of grief because they disbelieve this Book. (6) We have appointed all that is on the earth for an adornment for it, and that We may try which of them is fairest in works; (7) In the ultimate, We shall reduce all that is on the earth to a barren plain. (8) Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder? (9) When those young men took shelter in the cave, and prayed: "O Lord, grant us Your favour and dispose our affair aright," (10) And thereupon We veiled their ears in the cave for many a year, (11) Then We roused them to find out which of the party had the correct account of the duration of their sleep in the cave. (12)
