The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Praise be to God who has sent down to His servant -- the Book, which is free from any ambiguity (1) an unerringly Straight Book, meant to warn of a stern punishment from Allah, and to proclaim, to those who believe and work righteous deeds, the tiding that theirs shall be a good reward (2) Wherein they will abide for ever; (3) And to warn those who say, "God has taken to Himself a son." (4) Neither they nor their fathers had any knowledge of such utterance (that God has begotten a son). Whatever they say about (this matter) is vicious blasphemy and plain lies. (5) But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? (6) We have appointed all that is on the earth an adornment for it, in order that We try which of them is finest in works. (7) And lo! We shall make all that is thereon a barren mound. (8) Do you not think that the story of the Companions of the Cave and the Inscription was one of Our marvelous miracles? (9) When the young men took refuge in the Cave then said, “Our Lord! Give us mercy from Yourself, and arrange guidance for us in our affair.” (10) Then We smote their ears many years in the Cave. (11) Then We roused them to find out which of the party had the correct account of the duration of their sleep in the cave. (12)
