The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Praise belongs to Allah who has sent down the Book to His worshiper (Prophet Muhammad) and has not made any crookedness in it, (1) Rightly directing, that he might give warning of severe punishment from Him and give good news to the believers who do good that they shall have a goodly reward, (2) They will abide therein for ever. (3) And to warn those who say, "God has taken to Himself a son." (4) No knowledge thereof have they, nor had their fathers. Odious is the word that cometh out of their mouths; they say not but a lie. (5) Will you kill yourself for grief of them if they do not believe in this presentation? (6) Verily! We have made that which is on earth as an adornment for it, in order that We may test them (mankind) as to which of them are best in deeds. [i.e. those who do good deeds in the most perfect manner, that means to do them (deeds) totally for Allah's sake and in accordance to the legal ways of the Prophet SAW]. (7) Let it be known that We will turn all things on earth into dust. (8) Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder? (9) (Remember) when the young men fled for refuge (from their disbelieving folk) to the Cave, they said: "Our Lord! Bestow on us mercy from Yourself, and facilitate for us our affair in the right way!" (10) Then We draw (a veil) over their ears, for a number of years, in the Cave, (so that they heard not): (11) Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time. (12)
