The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Praise be to Allah Who has revealed to His servant the Book devoid of all crookedness; (1) (He hath made it) Straight (and Clear) in order that He may warn (the godless) of a terrible Punishment from Him, and that He may give Glad Tidings to the Believers who work righteous deeds, that they shall have a goodly Reward, (2) Where they will abide for ever; (3) Furthermore, [this divine writ is meant] to warn all those who assert, "God has taken unto Himself a son." (4) They have no knowledge of this, as their fathers did not have. How terrible are the words they utter! They speak nothing but lies. (5) Thou wouldst only, perchance, fret thyself to death, following after them, in grief, if they believe not in this Message. (6) Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth adornment for it that We may test them [as to] which of them is best in deed. (7) and, verily, [in time] We shall reduce all that is on it to barren dust! (8) Or, do you think the companions of the Cave and the tomb stone were a wonder among Our signs? (9) When those youths sought refuge in the Cave and said: "Our Lord! Grant us mercy from Yourself and provide for us rectitude in our affairs." (10) So We prevented them from hearing in the cave for a number of years. (11) Afterwards. We raised them up again, that We might know which of the two parties would better calculate the while they had tarried. (12)
