The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
ALL PRAISE BE to God who has revealed to His votary the Book which is free of all obliquity, (1) [He has made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward (2) [a state of bliss] in which they shall dwell beyond the count of time. (3) And to warn those who say: Allah hath chosen a son, (4) They do not have any knowledge of it nor did their forefathers; profound is the word that comes out of their mouths; they only speak a lie. (5) Haply thou art going to kill thyself over their footsteps, if they believe not in this discourse, out of sorrow. (6) That which is on earth we have made but as a glittering show for the earth, in order that We may test them - as to which of them are best in conduct. (7) And indeed We shall one day make all that is on it a barren plain. (8) Or, do you think the companions of the Cave and the tomb stone were a wonder among Our signs? (9) When the youths sought refuge in the cave, they said: Our Lord! grant us mercy from Thee, and provide for us a right course in our affair. (10) We sealed their ears in the cave for a number of years. (11) Thereafter We raised them up that We might know which of the two parties was best at reckoning the time that they had tarried. (12)
