The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
ALL PRAISE is due to God, who has bestowed this divine writ from on high upon His servant, and has not allowed any deviousness to obscure its meaning: (1) unswerving. To warn of great violence from Him, and to give good tidings to the believers who do good deeds that theirs shall be a goodly wage (2) and they will live for ever therein. (3) Further, that He may warn those (also) who say, "Allah hath begotten a son": (4) No knowledge thereof have they, nor had their fathers. Odious is the word that cometh out of their mouths; they say not but a lie. (5) But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? (6) We have adorned the earth with attractive things, so that We may test mankind as to which one is best in conduct, (7) Verily what is on earth we shall make but as dust and dry soil (without growth or herbage). (8) Do you not think that the story of the Companions of the Cave and the Inscription was one of Our marvelous miracles? (9) Behold, the youths betook themselves to the Cave: they said, "Our Lord! bestow on us Mercy from Thyself, and dispose of our affair for us in the right way!" (10) We sealed their ears in the cave for a number of years. (11) We then awakened them to see which of the two groups more accurately tells the period they had stayed. (12)
