The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Praise belongs to God who has sent down upon His servant the Book and has not assigned unto it any crookedness; (1) [He has made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward (2) wherein they shall remain forever, (3) And to warn those who say: Allah hath chosen a son, (4) they have no knowledge of it, they nor their fathers; a monstrous word it is, issuing out of their mouths; they say nothing but a lie. (5) But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? (6) We have appointed all that is on the earth for an adornment for it, and that We may try which of them is fairest in works; (7) And verily! We shall make all that is on it (the earth) a bare dry soil (without any vegetation or trees, etc.). (8) Do you think that the people of the Cave and the Inscription (the news or the names of the people of the Cave) were a wonder among Our Signs? (9) When those youths took refuge in the cave, they prayed: "O our Sustainer! Bestow on us grace from Thyself, and endow us, whatever our [outward] condition, with consciousness of what is right!" (10) Then We draw (a veil) over their ears, for a number of years, in the Cave, (so that they heard not): (11) And afterward We raised them up that We might know which of the two parties would best calculate the time that they had tarried. (12)
