The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Praise be to Allah Who hath revealed the Scripture unto His slave, and hath not placed therein any crookedness, (1) A just Book, to warn of Allah’s severe punishment, and to give glad tidings to the believers who do good deeds, that for them is an excellent reward. (2) wherein they shall abide for ever; (3) and admonish those who say that God has begotten a son. (4) They have no knowledge of this, as their fathers did not have. How terrible are the words they utter! They speak nothing but lies. (5) Thou wouldst only, perchance, fret thyself to death, following after them, in grief, if they believe not in this Message. (6) Surely We have made whatever is on the earth an embellishment for it, so that We may try them (as to) which of them is best in works. (7) We will surely reduce all that is on it to barren dust. (8) Do you think the men of the cave and Ar-Raqim were so strange among Our signs? (9) When the youths took refuge in the Cave saying, 'Our lord, give us mercy from Thee, and furnish us with rectitude in our affair.' (10) Then We draw (a veil) over their ears, for a number of years, in the Cave, (so that they heard not): (11) and then roused them so that We might see which of the two parties could best tell the length of their stay. (12)
