The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Praise belongs to God who has sent down upon His servant the Book and has not assigned unto it any crookedness; (1) (But hath made it) straight, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to bring unto the believers who do good works the news that theirs will be a fair reward, (2) and they will live for ever therein. (3) And warn those who say: Allah has taken a son. (4) No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. It is a grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a saying what they say is nothing but falsehood! (5) Haply thou art going to kill thyself over their footsteps, if they believe not in this discourse, out of sorrow. (6) That which is on earth we have made but as a glittering show for the earth, in order that We may test them - as to which of them are best in conduct. (7) In the ultimate, We shall reduce all that is on the earth to a barren plain. (8) Or, do you think the companions of the Cave and the tomb stone were a wonder among Our signs? (9) When the youth sought refuge in the cave they prayed "Lord, grant us mercy and help us to get out of this trouble in a righteous way". (10) We lulled them to sleep in that cave for a number of years (11) Then We woke them up again so that We might see which of the two groups would better calculate the time they had stayed there. (12)
