The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Praise be to Allah, Who hath sent to His Servant the Book, and hath allowed therein no Crookedness: (1) (He has made it) Straight to give warning (to the disbelievers) of a severe punishment from Him, and to give glad tidings to the believers (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), who work righteous deeds, that they shall have a fair reward (i.e. Paradise). (2) wherein they will remain [in a state of bliss] forever. (3) And it (the Koran) warns those who say: 'Allah has taken a son' (4) (A thing) whereof they have no knowledge, nor (had) their fathers, Dreadful is the word that cometh out of their mouths. They speak naught but a lie. (5) Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow. (6) Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth adornment for it that We may test them [as to] which of them is best in deed. (7) And indeed We shall one day make all that is on it a barren plain. (8) Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder? (9) When the youths sought refuge in the cave, they said: Our Lord! grant us mercy from Thee, and provide for us a right course in our affair. (10) And thereupon We veiled their ears in the cave for many a year, (11) Then roused them to ascertain which of the two groups could account for the period they had stayed. (12)
