The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Praise be to Allah Who has revealed to His servant the Book devoid of all crookedness; (1) (He has made it) Straight to give warning (to the disbelievers) of a severe punishment from Him, and to give glad tidings to the believers (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), who work righteous deeds, that they shall have a fair reward (i.e. Paradise). (2) In which they will remain forever (3) And that it may warn those who say: "God has begotten a son." (4) No knowledge whatever have they of Him, and neither had their forefathers: dreadful - is this saying that comes out of their mouths, [and] nothing but falsehood do they utter! (5) Haply thou art going to kill thyself over their footsteps, if they believe not in this discourse, out of sorrow. (6) We have caused earthly things to seem attractive so that We can see who will excel in good deeds. (7) And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground. (8) Deemest thou that the people of the cave and the inscription were of Our signs a wonder? (9) (Remember) when the young men fled for refuge (from their disbelieving folk) to the Cave, they said: "Our Lord! Bestow on us mercy from Yourself, and facilitate for us our affair in the right way!" (10) So We cast [a cover of sleep] over their ears within the cave for a number of years. (11) Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time. (12)
