The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Praise belongs to Allah who has sent down the Book to His worshiper (Prophet Muhammad) and has not made any crookedness in it, (1) [a divine writ] unerringly straight, meant to warn [the godless] of a severe punishment from Him, and to give unto the believers who do good works the glad tiding that theirs shall be a goodly reward (2) Wherein they shall remain for ever: (3) And to warn those who say, "Allah has taken a son." (4) Surely, of this they have no knowledge, neither they nor their fathers; it is a monstrous word that comes from their mouths, they say nothing but a lie. (5) Yet it may be, if they believe not in this statement, that thou (Muhammad) wilt torment thy soul with grief over their footsteps. (6) Surely We have made whatever is on the earth an embellishment for it, so that We may try them (as to) which of them is best in works. (7) and We shall surely make all that is on it barren dust. (8) Or, do you think the companions of the Cave and the tomb stone were a wonder among Our signs? (9) When the young men fled for refuge to the Cave and said: Our Lord! Give us mercy from Thy presence, and shape for us right conduct in our plight. (10) Therefore We covered up their (sense of) hearing (causing them, to go in deep sleep) in the Cave for a number of years. (11) Then We roused them to find out which of the party had the correct account of the duration of their sleep in the cave. (12)
