The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Praise be to God. He has sent the Book to His servant and has made it a flawless guide (for human beings) 1 and which rightly directs, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to proclaim to the believers who do righteous deeds that they shall have an excellent recompense, 2 [a state of bliss] in which they shall dwell beyond the count of time. 3 And that it may warn those who say: God hath taken a son. 4 They do not have any knowledge of it nor did their forefathers; profound is the word that comes out of their mouths; they only speak a lie. 5 Perhaps, you, would kill yourself (O Muhammad SAW) in grief, over their footsteps (for their turning away from you), because they believe not in this narration (the Quran). 6 We have appointed all that is on the earth for an adornment for it, and that We may try which of them is fairest in works; 7 And verily! We shall make all that is on it (the earth) a bare dry soil (without any vegetation or trees, etc.). 8 Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder? 9 When those young men took shelter in the cave, and prayed: "O Lord, grant us Your favour and dispose our affair aright," 10 And thereupon We veiled their ears in the cave for many a year, 11 Then We roused them to find out which of the party had the correct account of the duration of their sleep in the cave. 12
