The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Praise be to God. He has sent the Book to His servant and has made it a flawless guide (for human beings) (1) Rightly directing, that he might give warning of severe punishment from Him and give good news to the believers who do good that they shall have a goodly reward, (2) Where they will abide for ever; (3) And it (the Koran) warns those who say: 'Allah has taken a son' (4) Surely, of this they have no knowledge, neither they nor their fathers; it is a monstrous word that comes from their mouths, they say nothing but a lie. (5) Yet it may be, if they believe not in this statement, that thou (Muhammad) wilt torment thy soul with grief over their footsteps. (6) Surely We have made whatever is on the earth an embellishment for it, so that We may try them (as to) which of them is best in works. (7) In the ultimate, We shall reduce all that is on the earth to a barren plain. (8) Did you know that the People of the Cave and People close to the Woods, were Our exceptional signs? (9) When the youths sought refuge in the cave, they said: Our Lord! grant us mercy from Thee, and provide for us a right course in our affair. (10) Then We sealed up their hearing in the Cave for a number of years. (11) Afterwards. We raised them up again, that We might know which of the two parties would better calculate the while they had tarried. (12)
