The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance. (1) [a divine writ] unerringly straight, meant to warn [the godless] of a severe punishment from Him, and to give unto the believers who do good works the glad tiding that theirs shall be a goodly reward (2) Staying in it for ever; (3) And to warn those (Jews, Christians, and pagans) who say, "Allah has begotten a son (or offspring or children)." (4) Neither they nor their fathers had any knowledge of such utterance (that God has begotten a son). Whatever they say about (this matter) is vicious blasphemy and plain lies. (5) But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? (6) We have appointed all that is on the earth for an adornment for it, and that We may try which of them is fairest in works; (7) We will surely reduce all that is on it to barren dust. (8) Or, do you think that the Fellows of the Cave and the Inscription were of Our wonderful signs? (9) When the youths sought refuge in the cave, they said: Our Lord! grant us mercy from Thee, and provide for us a right course in our affair. (10) For many years We sealed up their hearing in the Cave, (11) Then We woke them up again so that We might see which of the two groups would better calculate the time they had stayed there. (12)
