The Night Journey (Al-Isra)
111 verses, revealed in Mecca after Stories (Al-Qasas) before Jonah (Younus)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Glory be to Him, who carried His servant by night from the Holy Mosque to the Further Mosque the precincts of which We have blessed, that We might show him some of Our signs. He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing. (1) We gave Moses the Book, and made it a source of guidance for the Children of Israel, commanding: "Take no other Guardian beside Me." (2) you who are the descendants of those whom We carried in the Ark with Noah. He was a truly thankful servant." (3) And We gave (Clear) Warning to the Children of Israel in the Book, that twice would they do mischief on the earth and be elated with mighty arrogance (and twice would they be punished)! (4) When the time of the first of these warnings came, We sent against you servants of Ours, of great might, who ravaged your homes. So the warning was fulfilled, (5) Then We gave you a chance against them, and strengthened you with wealth and children, and increased your numbers (and said): (6) If you do good deeds, you will for your own good and if you commit evil, it is for yourself; therefore when the second of those promises came so the enemy maim your faces, and enter the mosque as they had entered it the first time, and destroy until they ruin all they could capture. (7) It may be that your Lord will have mercy on you, and if you again return (to disobedience) We too will return (to punishment), and We have made hell a prison for the unbelievers. (8) Indeed this Qur’an guides to the most Straight Path, and gives glad tidings to the believers who do good deeds, that for them is a great reward. (9) and that those who do not believe in the world to come -- we have prepared for them a painful chastisement. (10)
