The Night Journey (Al-Isra)
111 verses, revealed in Mecca after Stories (Al-Qasas) before Jonah (Younus)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Hallowed be He Who translated His bondman in a night from the Sacred Mosque to the Furthest Mosque, the environs whereof We have blest, that We might shew him of Our signs; verily He! He is the Hearer, the Beholder. (1) We gave Moses the Book and made it a guide for the Children of Israel saying, "Do not take anyone besides Me as a guardian, (2) O you, the offspring of those We bore (in the ark) with Noah, he was indeed a grateful votary. (3) And We decreed for the Children of Israel in the Book: 'You shall corrupt the land twice, and you shall ascend exceedingly high' (4) So when the first of those promises came, We sent upon you Our extremely militant bondmen they therefore entered the cities pursuing you; and this was a promise that had to be fulfilled. (5) Thereafter We gave you a return of victory over them, and We supported you with riches and children, and We made you a numerous concourse. (6) (We said): 'If you do good, it shall be for your own souls; but if you do evil it is likewise' And when the second promise came (We sent them against you), to sadden your faces and to enter the Mosque as they entered it the first time, they utterly destroyed whatever they came across. (7) Perhaps your Lord will have mercy on you. If you return to disobedience We will also punish you again. We have made hell a prison for the disbelievers." (8) This Quran shows the way to that which is the most upright and gives to the righteous believers the glad news of a great reward. (9) (It also declares) that for the disbelievers We have prepared a painful torment in the life to come. (10)
