The Night Journey (Al-Isra)
111 verses, revealed in Mecca after Stories (Al-Qasas) before Jonah (Younus)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Holy is He who took His servant by night from the sacred place of worship [at Makkah] to the remote house of worship [at Jerusalem] -- the precincts of which We have blessed, so that We might show him some of Our signs. Surely, it is He who is All Hearing, and All Seeing. (1) To Moses We gave the Book and made it a guide for the children of Israel, so that they would not have any one as their guardian other than Me (2) The offspring of those whom We bore with Nuh; surely he was a grateful servant. (3) We forewarned the Children of Israel in the Scripture, "Twice you shall commit evil in the land. You shall become great transgressors." (4) When the time of the first of these warnings came, We sent against you servants of Ours, of great might, who ravaged your homes. So the warning was fulfilled, (5) Then We gave you a chance against them, and strengthened you with wealth and children, and increased your numbers (and said): (6) (Saying): If ye do good, ye do good for your own souls, and if ye do evil, it is for them (in like manner). So, when the time for the second (of the judgments) came (We roused against you others of Our slaves) to ravage you, and to enter the Temple even as they entered it the first time, and to lay waste all that they conquered with an utter wasting. (7) Perchance your Lord will have mercy upon you; but if you return, We shall return; and We have made Gehenna a prison for the unbelievers. (8) Surely, this Quran guides to the most upright way and gives good news to the believers who do good deeds, so that they will have a great reward (9) As for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We have prepared a painful punishment.
