The Night Journey (Al-Isra)
111 verses, revealed in Mecca after Stories (Al-Qasas) before Jonah (Younus)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Glory be to Him, who carried His servant by night from the Holy Mosque to the Further Mosque the precincts of which We have blessed, that We might show him some of Our signs. He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing. (1) We gave Moses the Book and made it a guide for the Children of Israel saying, "Do not take anyone besides Me as a guardian, (2) (We made it a guide for) the offspring of those whom We carried in the Ark with Noah, a thankful servant (of God). (3) We announced to the children of Israel in the Book: "You will surely create disorder twice in the land, and become exceedingly arrogant." (4) So when the first of those promises came, We sent upon you Our extremely militant bondmen they therefore entered the cities pursuing you; and this was a promise that had to be fulfilled. (5) Then We granted you an upper hand against them, and strengthened you with wealth and children, and multiplied your numbers. (6) (Saying): If ye do good, ye do good for your own souls, and if ye do evil, it is for them (in like manner). So, when the time for the second (of the judgments) came (We roused against you others of Our slaves) to ravage you, and to enter the Temple even as they entered it the first time, and to lay waste all that they conquered with an utter wasting. (7) Perhaps your Lord will have mercy on you. If you return to disobedience We will also punish you again. We have made hell a prison for the disbelievers." (8) Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward. (9) (It also declares) that for the disbelievers We have prepared a painful torment in the life to come. (10)
