The Night Journey (Al-Isra)
111 verses, revealed in Mecca after Stories (Al-Qasas) before Jonah (Younus)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Glorified be He Who carried His servant by night from the Inviolable Place of Worship to the Far distant place of worship the neighbourhood whereof We have blessed, that We might show him of Our tokens! Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Seer. (1) We gave Moses the Book, and made it a guidance for the children of Israel that they should not take another protector apart from Me. (2) "O offspring of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Nuh (Noah)! Verily, he was a grateful slave." (3) We made it known to the Israelites through the Torah that they would twice commit evil in the land with great transgression and rebellion. (4) So when the promise for the first of the two came, We sent over you Our servants, of mighty prowess, so they went to and fro among the houses, and it was a promise to be accomplished. (5) Then We gave you back the turn to prevail against them, and aided you with wealth and children and made you a numerous band. (6) If ye did well, ye did well for yourselves; if ye did evil, (ye did it) against yourselves. So when the second of the warnings came to pass, (We permitted your enemies) to disfigure your faces, and to enter your Temple as they had entered it before, and to visit with destruction all that fell into their power. (7) Perhaps Allah will have mercy on you. But if you return, We will return. We have made Gehenna (Hell) a prison for the unbelievers. (8) This Koran guides to the straightest way. It gives glad tidings of a great wage to the believers who do good deeds, (9) And those who do not believe in the Hereafter We have kept prepared for them a punishment, most painful. (10)
