So when they did not anticipate anything from him, they went away and started consulting each other; their eldest brother said, “Do you not know that your father has taken from you an oath upon Allah, and before this, how you had failed in respect of Yusuf? Therefore I will not move from here until my father permits or Allah commands me; and His is the best command.” (80) "Go to our father and tell him, 'Father, your son committed theft. We say only what we have seen and we have no control over the unseen. (81) And inquire those of the city where we have been and of the caravan with whom we have travelled hither; and verily we are truth-tellers. (82) He [Ya'qub (Jacob)] said: "Nay, but your ownselves have beguiled you into something. So patience is most fitting (for me). May be Allah will bring them (back) all to me. Truly He! only He is All-Knowing, All-Wise." (83) And he turned away from them, and said: "How great is my grief for Joseph!" And his eyes became white with sorrow, and he fell into silent melancholy. (84) They said: "By Allah! You will never cease remembering Yusuf (Joseph) until you become weak with old age, or until you be of the dead." (85) He replied, "I only complain of my sorrow and grief to God. I know about God what you do not know. (86) "O my sons! go ye and enquire about Joseph and his brother, and never give up hope of Allah's Soothing Mercy: truly no one despairs of Allah's Soothing Mercy, except those who have no faith." (87) When they returned to him, they said (to Joseph): "O Minister, calamity has befallen us and our people. We have brought but a meagre sum, but give us full measure as alms bestowed. God surely rewards those who give alms." (88) He said: "Do you know what you did with Yusuf (Joseph) and his brother, when you were ignorant?" (89) They exclaimed: "Are you indeed Joseph?" He said: "Yes, I am Joseph and this is my brother. Allah has surely been gracious to us. Indeed whoever fears Allah and remains patient, Allah does not allow the reward of such people to go to waste." (90) They said, "By Allah, certainly has Allah preferred you over us, and indeed, we have been sinners." (91) He said: Have no fear this day! May Allah forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. (92) Go with this shirt of mine and cast it upon my father's face. He will recover his sight; thereupon come [back] to me with all your family." (93)
