The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Firaun, “You have accepted faith in Him before I gave you permission! This is indeed a grand conspiracy you have plotted in the city, in order to expel its people from it; so now you will come to know!” 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
