The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. (109) who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' (110) They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: (111) who should bring to you every skillful magician." (112) And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' (113) He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). (114) Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' (115) 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. (116) Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. (117) ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. (118) And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. (119) The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, (120) They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. (121) The Lord of Moses and Aaron. (122) Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. (123) I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. (124) They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. (125) "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! (126)
